Violinist Ruth Bergman to Perform at First Presbyterian Church Hartford

February 7th, 2010


Ruth Bergman will be performing a violin recital in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday February 7th at 2:30pm.  Bergman, assisted by Gay Chun on piano, will perform works by Bach, Kreisler, Berlioz, and Khachaturian.

Admission is free, with optional free-will donation.  A reception will be held in Hodge Hall following the performance.

Ms. Bergman is an active teacher and performer in the Greater Hartford area.  She has performed with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Nutmeg Symphony, Wallingford Symphony, and the New Britain Symphony, and also enjoys collaborating as a chamber musician. 

Ruth holds a B.M. in violin performance from the Hartt School, with additional studies at the Lawrence University Conservatory.  Ms. Bergamn, a native of Iowa City, Iowa,  was artistic director and violin teacher for the Zwischenspiel Summer Music Camp, a chamber music program for young string players in Iowa City from 2005-2007.   

She currently teaches violin with the Hartt Community Division, and is working toward a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at the Hartt School.  Her primary teachers include Katie Lansdale, Elizabeth Faidley Solars, Anton Miller, Roy Malan, and Allen Ohmes.  Ruth lives in West Hartford with her husband Ben and their cat Roger.

First Presbyterian Church is located at 136 Capitol Avenue, in Hartford.
