Volunteer FAQs

How do I volunteer at Hands On Hartford?

Please review our volunteer opportunities and fill out a volunteer application here. After filling out an application, a member of our Community Engagement Team will be in touch in 1-3 business days to talk about the next steps. All approved volunteers must attend a 1 hour volunteer orientation before volunteering in our programs. Please note that the number of available volunteer opportunities will fluctuate throughout the year, you may be placed on our volunteer waitlist.

Do you need volunteers in the evening or on weekends?

With the exception of special events, our volunteering opportunities fall on Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30am-5:00pm.

Do you have any one-time volunteer opportunities?

Due to limited volunteer onboarding capacity, we request that our volunteers commit to volunteering on a weekly basis.

I have community service hours to complete. Can I complete them at Hands On Hartford?

We are happy to accommodate volunteers in need of community service hours. Please fill out our volunteer application here, and indicate the number of hours that must be completed and the date they must be completed by. For community service volunteers, a minimum of 40 hours must be completed at our organization. Please note that volunteers needing to complete community service hours on a time sensitive bases may not be accepted, or may not be able to complete all hours with us.

I’m under 18, can I volunteer?

To volunteer at Hands On Hartford, you must be at least 16 years old and have parental permission. Volunteers ages 10 and up may volunteer with their parent or guardian present at holiday community meals or special events.

What should I wear to volunteer?

Dress casual but appropriate in a professional setting. All volunteers must wear closed toe non-slip shoes. Gather55 volunteers are required to wear a provided hair net or baseball cap.
