A Message from Janet P. Bermudez- Executive Director
Six Months In-With Gratitude and Purpose
As I mark my first six months as Executive Director of Hands On Hartford, I want to take a moment to reflect—and most importantly, to thank each of you. Whether you are a member of our incredible staff, a generous donor, a community partner, or a long-time supporter, you are an essential part of this journey.
In a time of continued uncertainty, one thing has remained clear: our shared commitment to Hands On Hartford’s mission. My focus has been on ensuring that we stay centered on that mission—supporting our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and care.
To our staff: you are the heart of this organization. Your dedication behind the scenes and on the front lines has allowed us to expand programs, improve services, and reach more people in meaningful ways.
To our donors and partners: your belief in our mission fuels everything we do. Your generosity and trust empower us to grow, adapt, and meet the moment—no matter what challenges arise.
Together, over the past six months, we’ve made significant strides. We’ve launched new initiatives, improved internal systems, and strengthened the impact of our core programs. These aren’t just operational wins—they’re human ones. Every meal served, every neighbor housed, every family supported is a direct result of our collective effort.
Looking ahead, we’re focused on building a strong, sustainable foundation for the future. That means investing in our people, diversifying our funding, and staying agile in a changing world. Our goal isn’t just to get through uncertainty—it’s to emerge from it stronger, more connected, and more impactful than ever before.
I’m deeply grateful to be walking this path with you.
Thank you for your dedication, for your belief in our mission, and for being part of this extraordinary community. I’m optimistic about the road ahead because I believe in the people traveling it—with purpose, compassion, and hope.
With heartfelt thanks,

HOH In Action!
Our Hands On Hartford team came together this month, alongside many other amazing organizations, to rally for nonprofit funding at the capital! Together, we raised our voices, heard from inspiring speakers, and united behind a shared mission to strengthen and sustain the vital work nonprofits do every day. We are so grateful for the passion, dedication, and heart our staff brought to the cause. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue showing up for our communities!
Faith In Action
Celebrating a Powerful Partnership with Allen Chapel AME Church - Every third Monday of the month, something truly special happens at Hands On Hartford!
For years, Allen Chapel AME Church has been more than a partner, they’ve been family. Their incredible cooking fills our space with delicious aromas, but it’s their kindness, compassion, and welcoming spirit that fills the room with hope. Their team doesn’t just prepare a hot, hearty pasta meal for our Free Monday Night Community Dinner. They bring joy. They bring dignity. They bring the kind of warmth that turns a simple meal into a moment of belonging. Thank you for showing up, month after month, with open hearts and generous hands. Your impact is felt far beyond the dinner table. You nourish the soul of our community.
Memorial Day Community Meal
This past Memorial Day, we had a full house and fulfilled hearts! Our staff and 30 volunteers, were busy as bees serving 362 meals to those who chose to spend their holiday with us!
We were welcomed by sunshine and warm smiles. Together we enjoyed, burgers, hotdogs, mac & cheese, corn, green salad and cookies for dessert! After a day well spent in each others company - we left with full stomachs and hearts filled with joy.
Thank you to Talcott Financial for sponsoring the meal and helping us share community with our Hartford neighbors this holiday!
